Fruit and Vegetable Sculpture Competition

We are pleased to announce that Art Plumstead will be running a Fruit and Vegetable Sculpture Competition at the Plumstead Make Merry Saturday 9th June.
Theme: A Plumstead Memory.
Venue for entries: The Information Tent.
Entry time: 11am – 12 midday.
It is fine if you enter a bit later than midday, but then early voters won’t have the chance to see your fabulous creation!
Voting: 12-4 p.m.
Each passing member of the public votes once for their favourite sculpture.
The result will be announced from The Bandstand (main stage) once all the votes are tallied.
Prizes: M&S vouchers for the first, second and third placed entries.
Which is obviously insignificant compared to being widely acclaimed for your imagination and skill.
Looking forward to seeing your inspired creations.

Do you want to be a part of the 2018 festival?

With less than a month until this year’s Plumstead Make Merry festival you still have time to get involved…

We are still recruiting for stewards for the event.

Whether you can join us for just a couple of hours or for the whole day, your support will help us make the festival a success. There will be lots to do from helping set up or pack up, before and after it is open to the public, through to being an Event Steward.

No experience is necessary, we welcome willing helpers over the age of 18.

You can find full details of how to apply and more information on being a steward at

https://plumsteadmakemerry.co.uk/get-involved/volunteer/

Please note: We are no longer accepting applications for performers or stalls.

The Badge Queen of Plumstead will be at the festival

Our friends at Art Plumstead have arranged for the Badge Queen of Plumstead to make an appearance at the 2018 Plumstead Make Merry festival on Saturday 9th June.

It’s Plumstead’s very own alternative to the Pearlies!

The Badge Queen needs your badges to adorn her lovely cloak.  You can add them to the cloak by bringing them along to the festival on the day, or take them along to Plumstead Community Market at St. Mark’s Church Hall on 28th April and 19th May.

THE MAKE MERRY RECEIVES RECOGNITION WITH A CIVIC AWARD

The Plumstead Make Merry was recognised by the Royal Borough of Greenwich when its Chair, Sarah Harper was given a Community Civic Award.

Sarah Harper, was successfully nominated for an award for her energy and passion in the planning and evaluation over the past eleven years, which has revitalised the Plumstead Make Merry, the longest running community run festival in the Borough.

After receiving the award, Sarah said, “It’s great to have the Plumstead Make Merry festival recognised, this award is a testament to the hard work that a small group of volunteers put into creating the event each year. I accept this on behalf of all of the committee members, present and past, that are so dedicated to providing this festival for our local community”.

Over forty exceptional people, who have made outstanding contributions, were honoured.

Worthy winners received their awards from the Leader of the Borough, Councillor Denise Hyland, at Woolwich Town Hall on Thursday 22 March and the Mayor of Royal Greenwich, Councillor Peter Brooks. Chief Executive Debbie Warren also congratulated winners at the sixth annual event which included entertainment from Millennium Performing Arts.

Awards were presented across seven categories – community, act of courage, young person’s outstanding achievement, volunteer, sporting achievement, lifetime achievement and arts and entertainment.

Do you want to be one of our volunteers?

The Plumstead Make Merry is organised by volunteers, and on the day of the festival it is staffed by volunteers. The event simply would not happen without the dedication of a small group of people to ensure that smiles are put on the faces of our local community each year.

Do you want to be one of our volunteers on Saturday 9th June 2018?

We are recruiting for stewards now and further details and an application form can be found via this link

https://plumsteadmakemerry.co.uk/get-involved/volunteer/

As a not-for-profit organisation we cannot pay you but we may be able to reimburse some of your travel expenses, provide you with a packed lunch and a certificate to say that you were an official event steward.

Hours are flexible, just let us know what you are able to commit to.

We would love to see more of our community join us to keep the local smiles going!

Could you design our next logo?

The Plumstead Make Merry is looking for a new logo. Are you able to help out? The brief is that the design will need to work well either small or large, it has to work well in black & white or colour, and it should be an image that demonstrates a link to Plumstead Common or the festival, for example trees or happy people/ community. If you want to give it a go, please email your design by Friday 16th February to info@plumsteadmakemerry.co.uk

Our current logo is this, it features a tree, a plum and the Links clocktower: cropped-logo

We look forward to receiving your designs. Thank you.
